JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A man is suffering from life-threatening injuries after a visit Saturday with his relatives at a home on the Westside according to Sgt. T.K. Waters of the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

JSO alerted First Coast News that Homicide detectives were responding to at shooting in 2900 block of Turning Leaf Lane at 7:24 p.m.

Sgt. T.K. Waters said 61-year-old Edward Thomas was looking at a family member's gun when he accidentally shot himself. Police said he didn't know the gun was loaded.
