3-year-old a golf prodigy in the making

ABITA SPRINGS, La. – The only real goal for children playing sports should be for them to have fun and enjoy the time they spend playing sports. In Abita Springs, there is a young golfer doing just that, having a blast, and he's really good at the game too.

"My name is Baby James," said James Grimes, a 3-year-old PGA pro-in-the-making.

"He used to watch the PGA Tour with my dad," explained James' mother Nicole Ostarly Grimes.

Baby James explained he's been playing since he was 1 and a half-years old. His preferred living room these days is full of holes, 18 of them to be exact.

Abita Springs Country Club is where you can usually find James, with family in tow, working on his swing. James is serious about his golf game, almost too serious.

"I didn't know it would go this far. We really thought about doing lessons but we thought he was too young. But then we bought him some clubs…and he hit every ball," explains Nicole.

He hits every ball with amazing precision, like he's been playing far beyond the few years he's been living. "My favorite part is when I make one," Baby James explained about making holes-in-one on the course.

This is clearly not your tiny tot toting a toy bag of plastic clubs around. "I got big boy clubs," exclaims James. "I have a blue golf bag."

And with it, comes some added responsibility, some of which he quickly delegated by turning Juan Kincaid into his personal caddy for the day.

But, when you slap the ball around the course like this kid does, a little star treatment should be expected.

He'll be doing his first tournament at the age of 3, coming up in June, and his confidence, it comes from his coach Michael and is fully supported and encouraged by his parents who, James will tell you, don't do golf.

Baby James will be someone to watch, especially when he's a 3-year-old golf pro in the making, and still learning his A-B-C's.
