Red-light camera bill debated in Tallahassee

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Red-light traffic cameras have been heavily debated in the Florida Legislature for years.

Many in favor say they save lives and force drivers to slow down and stop at yellow lights. Many against them say they are dangerous and a plot for local governments to collect extra money.

Wednesday afternoon, a Senate committee will take a look at SB 144, filed by Sen. Jeff Brandes of St. Petersburg, which would repeal local government's authority to install red light cameras in intersections.‚Äč
