Fla. senator to speak out on "Stand Your Ground"

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- As lawmakers have a busy day in Tallahassee making final votes on dozens of bills, one senator is taking time to speak out against the controversial "Stand Your Ground" law.

Senator Chris Smith, D – Fort Lauderdale, will hold a press conference discussing the controversial issue.

Others will join Sen. Smith, including the executive director of the Dream Defenders, a group who organized and held sit-in protests at the capitol last session after the acquittal of George Zimmerman, who was accused of shooting 17-year-old Trayvon Martin.

Sen. Smith and Sen. David Simmons (R – Altamonte Springs) have filed a bill (SB 130) that would amend Florida's "Stand Your Ground."
