Hutson wins District 6 special election

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- Republican Travis Hutson defeated two challengers to win the Senate District 6 special election Tuesday night.

Hutson's closest competitor, Ronald "Doc" Renuart, lost by more than 4,000 votes.

In a distant third-place was Dennis McDonald.

Hutson is looking to take the place of long time Senator John Thrasher who vacated his seat last year to take a job as president at Florida State University.

The Elkton-native is heavily favored against Democrat David Cox whom he will face in an April 7 election.
