11:34PM EST November 6. 2012 - Paul Ryan didn't reach his first goal of becoming vice president, but he won re-election to Congress.

Ryan, who represents Wisconsin's 1st Congressional District, defeated Democrat Rob Zerban for an eighth term in the U.S. House.

Mitt Romney's running mate is popular back home in Janesville. Already a rising star as chairman of the House Budget Committee, Ryan's profile is now through the roof after months of campaigning across the country as the GOP vice presidential nominee.
