TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- The U.S. Senate primary is the only statewide race on Florida's primary ballot and it is not stirring up excitement.

The Republican primary has Congressman Connie Mack IV as the heavy favorite Tuesday against former Congressman Dave Weldon, who doesn't have statewide name recognition or the money to effectively reach voters. The winner will face incumbent Democrat Bill Nelson in November.

Two years ago, there were competitive primaries to pick Republican nominees for governor and attorney general and Democratic primaries for attorney general and U.S. Senate.

The most talked about race is in central Florida. Republican U.S. Reps. John Mica and Sandy Adams are facing each other in a heated primary after redistricting put them in the same district.
