JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Former GOP presidential nominee Newt Gingrich stopped in the River City on Thursday afternoon to support likely GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney.

Gingrich spoke at the Republican Party of Duval County headquarters, which is also being dubbed as the "Romney Victory Office" located at 4963 Beach Boulevard.

After withdrawing from the presidential race, Gingrich threw his support behind Romney.

Gingrich talked to a crowded room about about jobs, health care and Mitt Romney. He also spoke about Florida Sen. Marco Rubio.

"I like Marco Rubio very much. I've known him since before he was Speaker of the House. He is a great guy and certainly he is on everybody's short list, I think Gov. Romney has five or six good possibilities and I think he will pick somebody who is solid and is capable of being president."

Gingrich told supporters they needed to build a substantial Republican majority in Jacksonville and the state because Florida would be a big player in the November election.
