JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. -- Nancy Soderberg, a former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, filed Friday to run for District 4 in the State Senate.
Soderberg is the first Democrat in this race. Aaron Bean, Mike Weinstein and Wyman Russo Duggan have filed to run as Republicans. Patrick Dewayne Mency has qualified to run in the race as a write-in candidate, according to the state's Division of Elections website.
Soderberg is an At-Large Member of the Board of Directors of the Jacksonville World Affairs Council. She served as Alternate Representative to the United Nations from 1997-2001.
She was appointed in January by President Barack Obama as Chairperson for the Public Interest Declassification Board.
District 4 covers western and eastern, but not central Duval County, as well as all of Nassau County.
