TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- A bill allowing medical marijuana is working its way up in the Florida House, but not without much debate.
House Bill 843 passed unanimously in the house appropriations committee Thursday. However, legislators are concerned about the potential misuse of marijuana and other issues.
Several lawmakers, like Rep. Darryl Rouson, D-St. Petersburg, said they are for it if it can possibly help people, but are worried about the message it sends out.
"If medical marijuana does that and I believe it does, then why should we be denying it to these individuals? But, at the same time, one of my huge concerns is the perception that it sends out, the message that it sends," he said.
The committee also voted in a $1 million study to research how exactly marijuana helps medically.
