JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. -- Sixteen Duval County athletes with the Special Olympics Florida are gearing up to compete in the State Surfing Festival on Saturday, Sept. 15 in Cocoa Beach. Tuesday night the surfers, who range in age from 13 to 35, held their final practice behind the Casa Marina Hotel. Volunteers from the Florida Surfing Association, led by President Paul West, have been working one-on-one with the athletes to help them improve their skills and learn how to surf safely.
