Tornado in Lake Placid kills 1, damages 10 homes

MIAMI -- Authorities say a woman was found dead inside a house in Highlands County that was destroyed as Tropical Storm Debby inundated some areas with rain. Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Nell Hays says a child was also found Sunday in the same house in Venus. The child is being treated at the hospital. No further information has been released. Authorities have also opened an evacuation shelter for residents. A tornado was reported earlier in Venus and another tornado was reported Saturday in southwest Florida.
