Officer struck by car on 8th Street

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- An officer was struck by a car while pursuing a narcotics suspect on foot.

Two officers with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office in a patrol car were pursuing a narcotics suspect who was on foot , according Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Undersheriff Dwain Senterfitt. An officer attempted to pursue the suspect on foot, but was struck by an oncoming green Honda when he exited the patrol car he was traveling in. The officer involved, Kreshnik "Nick" Isaraj, is a five year veteran with JSO, having joined in 2009.

Isaraj was exiting the patrol car from the rear driver's side of the patrol car, Senterfitt detailed. Isaraj's view was blocked by the officer driving and apparently did not see the car approaching.

Police closed 8th Street between North Laura Street and Main Street following the incident. Isaraj was transported to UF Health Jacksonville with non-life threatening injuries, and was described as, "pretty banged up," complaining of ankle knee and leg pain, according to Senterfitt.

The suspect was captured and is now in JSO custody. The suspect's identity has not been released.

At this point in the investigation, the driver of the green Honda is not facing charges.

Investigators remain on scene as part of an ongoing narcotics investigation.
