NY girl, 5, killed in north Fla. crash

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) - The Florida Highway Patrol says a 5-year-old New York girl is dead and her brother is recovering from serious injuries after the car they were riding in was struck by a sports utility vehicle.

Troopers say Kia Soul driven by 32-year-old Joseph Paul of New York had stopped just before the crash so the occupants could enter information into the GPS system. The stopped vehicle was partially blocking the outside lane of Waldo Road.

The driver of a Ford Expedition didn't see the stopped car. Both vehicles traveled off the roadway.

Annabel Jeanine Montimarie was pronounced dead at the scene. Her 8-year-old brother Sebastian G. Montimarie was taken to UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville, where he was reported in serious condition. Paul and 34-year-old Cassandra Montimarie received minor injuries.
