Somewhere between hip hop, Brian Eno, and a lot of bad illegal drugs lies Two Ton Sloth. A two piece featuring spoken word master Brad Hamers and cut chemist PZ (not me unfortunately - editor), Two Ton Sloth's album, Two Ton Sloth is like the Beat Generation on even worse drugs than they already were brought via time machine into the 21st century.
Two Ton Sloth is easily the scariest, most thought provoking record you're likely to hear in 2007 and with sounds that will freak you out and words that threaten to make your brain hurt it's easy to see why. This is the sound of Charles Bukowski wandering through a haunted house and having his life flash in front of his eyes. Its spoken word set to a chilling beat comes from beyond the grave.
Two Ton's sounds are gothic and ethereal and may in fact be from beyond the grave. Their spooky compositions are barely there clinging to consciousness but still cognitive enough to make a point. Two Ton Sloth is heady, frightening stuff that sounds like it belongs in a movie like Children of Men. It's post apocalyptic Beat that's superb and harrowing.
A piece like, "For," says more in five minutes than most musicians say in a lifetime and with unnerving songs carrying the words along it makes a touching impact on your soul.
Two Ton Sloth is not a pop record. In fact, it's so far from being a pop record, the word probably doesn't even exist in Two Ton's vocabulary. What it is though is a moving piece of poetry set to minimal and eerie sounds that hit and hit hard. In other words, Two Ton Sloth is a very, very intriguing record.
