JACKSONVILLE, FL -- Some started the day chilly, others down right cold around Jacksonville. In Southeast Georgia Homerville dipped to 27 degrees. Alma and Waycross bottomed out at 30. The record for Alma/Waycross is 27. Most of Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia saw morning temps ranging from the upper 30s into the 40s, with 50s along the beaches. A dip in the jet stream and a cold area of high pressure near Tennessee, are the cold air culprits.

The Freeze advisories that expired for Lake City, Waycross and points west may go back into effect overnight. Very cold temperatures will again invade areas west of Jacksonville, and we could see freezes in those locations. The afternoon highs will gradually warm up as we head into the weekend, but only by a couple of degrees. Temps will max out near 70 Saturday and Sunday.
