JACKSONVILLE, FL -- Nearly a year ago, the Saint Johns River experienced an algae bloom that resulted in a green film covering large parts of the river. Water activity declined as people were cautioned to avoid the river.
Neil Armingeon who is the St. Johns Riverkeeper says the bloom was a wake up call. People he says have responded. The algae bloom largely was the result of fertilizer runoff.
Armingeon says, "In my time here I don't think people's awareness of the river has ever been greater."
