JACKSONVILLE, FL -- The coldest locations north and west of Jacksonville will see temperatures briefly reach 32 degrees between 6 and 8 am. This includes Baker, Union, interior Nassau and all of inland south Georgia. In Duval, Cecil field to the airport and over to Oceanway will touch 32 by dawn. Areas East of the St. John's River should not have any plant damage. Orange Park could reach 32 in exposed locations.
Freeze warnings are issued when the temperature at or near the ground is expected to be a problem to vegetation during the growing season. This is why earlier in the season Georgia had freezes without mention of a freeze warning. To date this season there has been 12 freezes at the Jacksonville airport. February only had two freezes on the 12th and 19th. both were light freezes with a low of 32. The latest freeze on record was March 31st. in 1964.
Long range predictions for March calls for below normal temperatures and near normal rain. March normally receives 3.93 inches of rain.
