Fallen Marine Jonathan Taylor's Final Homecoming

NAS JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The remains of the 22-year-old Marine who was killed in Afghanistan are home.

Lance Cpl. Jonathan Taylor was killed Dec. 1 when an improvised explosive device detonated. Taylor, a Wolfson High School graduate, was on his second tour in the Middle East, having served in Iraq in 2008.

The arrival of his remains at NAS Jax this morning was not open to the public, but there was a public visitation at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home on San Jose Boulevard near Loretto Road in Mandarin Tuesday evening.

Earl Salmons, a Marine veteran, said he considers Taylor his brother.

"It hits all of us.  Our whole heart are with the family, because when we lose one it's just a part of us," said Salmons.

Taylor's funeral is 11 a.m. Wednesday at Celebration Church on Deerwood Parkway, followed by burial in Oaklawn Cemetery.

His family says he died doing what he loved.
