JACKSONVILLE, FL -- When Bill Ivie opened his October water-sewer bill, he hit the roof. "This has to be a mistake," said Ivie.

The bill went from $32.06 a month to $1,026.99 for October.

Ivie said, "There's no way I could have used 108,000 gallons of water. My house would be flooded, or my yard would be a swamp."

Ivie lives alone and said to prove that this is an error by Normandy Village Utility, he hired a plumber to inspect for leaks.

"He said there were no problems," said Ivie when asked what the plumber found.

Ivie said he has had problems in the past, and he paid to correct them, but he says this problem is with the utility company.

"I told them they have a bad meter and they said that is not possible."

The Normandy Village Utility has agreed to monitor the activity of his meter for several days before presenting his bill to the board for an adjustment.

The Florida Public Service Commission said Ivie or any other consumer can file a complaint by call 1-800-342-3552.
