
NEW YORK (AP) -- Stock prices rose strongly to begin the week as investors embraced the latest earnings reports. And results after the closing bell from Apple sent those shares higher in after-hours trading.
The Dow settled at 10,092 after a gain of 96 points. The S&P was up 10 points to 1,098. The Nasdaq surged about 20 points to 2,176.
The Commerce Department today releases figures on September housing starts. Also due, the Producer Price Index, which is the main gauge of inflation at the wholesale level.
