CALLAHAN, FL -- Callahan Elementary students and teachers filled a jar today with quarters and dollar bills. It all adds up to helping a woman in need get a free mammogram, which could save her life.
P.E. teacher Alma Bailey inspired the event. She says she's followed the Mammogram Hotline project from the beginning last October, and she's impressed with how it's helping women.
Several teachers at Callahan Elementary are breast cancer survivors.
The school's donation will go straight to that non-profit effort. It's a joint project between First Coast News and Komen for the Cure North Florida.
Every $100 means a free mammogram for a woman who can't afford to pay.
If you can't afford a mammogram, call our M-Line at 1-877-9-MY-MAMO.
