JACKSONVILLE, FL -- This summer when Bobby Ludwig hired P&L Installation to install windows in his gazebo, he was excited...until now.
"He's been gone since August 22nd, and won't return my calls, it is time for me to take action," says Ludwig.
Ludwig says contractor John Quillen did a good job installing the windows, but did a poor job in paying his suppliers.
Ludwig says, "That's not right."
And now the window supplier has placed a lien on his home for nearly $4,000.
"I need John to return my calls. I can't have a lien on my home," says Ludwig.
On Your Side reached John Quillen and he said he had to leave the state, but he left someone behind to run his business.
"I've been working in Texas, but I will take care of this within the next ten days," says Quillen. He says he has been in business 22 years and this is the first time this has happened.
Consumer Tip
After posting a notice of commencement for the work on your property:
- Get from your contractor a list of all subcontractors and suppliers who will be providing materials or working on your property.
- If your contract calls for partial payments, get a release of lien each time you may a payment.
- Before you make the final payment get an affidavit that everyone involved with your project has been paid.
