NEW YORK (AP) -- Wall Street's rally resumed in the latest session. The Dow was up 61 points to 9,787. The S&P was up 8 points to 1,065. And the Nasdaq surged 14 points to 2,124.

Investors have found reassurance in the start of corporate earnings season, with Alcoa posting better than expected results. Monthly retail sales reports from major chains, taken together, posted the first increase in over a year.

On tap today, The Commerce Department releases figures on international trade for August. The trade gap is seen widening.

Asian markets are posting gains in Friday trading, though the gains are being tempered by weak economic data from Japan.
