BRUNSWICK, GA -- The Glynn County Health Department is much busier than usual these days as more parents learn the H1N1 flu mist has arrived.
This week, the health department got its first shipment of 400 vials of the mist vaccine. Children between the ages of 2 and 4 are being prioritized.
Tammy Bailey brought in her 3-year-old son, Brayson, who handled inhaling the mist just fine.
"It's not worth taking a chance at all. You hear things every day about the swine flu," said Bailey.
Rae Copeland did not realize the Glynn County Health Department was taking appointments to immunize toddlers for the swine flu.
"When it comes to the health of my child, I do everything that I have to do," said Copeland, who promised she would be back soon with daughter Richelle.
The word is starting to get out that the H1N1 flu mist has arrived, said Sharon Smith, health department spokeswoman.
The department is billing insurance companies if a patient has health insurance, but those without are getting the vaccine free of charge.
Smith said parents often ask about the possible side effects.
"A lot of times the side effect from the flu mist could be a runny nose, a little sore throat," said Smith.
When more H1N1 vaccine arrives, Smith said other age groups will be included with pregnant women and health care workers next on the list.
