JACKSONVILLE, FL -- The Northeast Florida Coalition on Recovery still is actively helping homeowners trying to recover from Tropical Storm Fay.

Last August, rain and wind wreaked havoc on the First Coast in one of the worst storms of 2008's hurricane season.

"When you see the need that is out there, you want to help everybody," said Bob Warro, recovery case manager for the nonprofit Northeast Florida Coalition on Recovery.

The Northeast Florida Coalition on Recovery set up operations in January after receiving $100,000 from the state to help fill in the gaps not covered by federal disaster dollars.

Warro says so far about 50 homes have received emergency money for repairs and there is still some money available. But, he says, the clocking is ticking since remaining dollars must be spent by the end of the year or returned to the state.

"We restrict the repairs to the necessity. As far as the cosmetics, that's left up to the homeowner," said Warro, who is encouraging homeowners with Fay damage to make an application for assistance.

The Northeast Florida Coalition on Recovery is headquartered in Riverside.

The phone number for information is 338-0920. Warro can be contacted by email: bobwarro@presbyteriansocialministries.org
