CALLAHAN, FL -- At Linda Jean's Southern Style restaurant, you can get a good hamburger - with a side of precaution.
"If our guys have flu-like symptoms, we tell them, 'take the precaution (of) being off a couple of days," says Bradley Morgan, a cook at the restaurant.
Morgan is being extra careful these days. The talk around the restaurant tables has been about swine flu.
"I'm aware. It's spread a lot, heard a lot of people have it," says Morgan.
Nassau County has dozens of cases of H1N1. In fact, at last count the number was 58. That was Thursday, when Nassau stopped counting.
"We're not counting individual cases. We are continuing to do surveillance. At this point, we are really focused on the mass vaccine and getting our message out there," says Heather Huffman, of the Nassau County Health Department.Counting cases creates a false sense of security, because the numbers may be wrong, Huffman says. "We also know a lot may not go to the doctor and they have the illness."
Nassau County has ordered its first round of the H1N1 vaccine. It's expected any day. Those most at risk, such as children and pregnant women, will receive it first.
"I've carried on with normal, everyday life," says Morgan.
While he has no plans to get the vaccine, he is doing his part. "I'm making sure to wash my hands. Here, I wash them 100 times a day."
Experts say the best way to stop the spread of the virus is washing your hands frequently and sneezing into your elbow or arm.
Experts also advise if you have flu-like symptoms, stay home.
