NEW YORK (AP) -- Monday's trading marked a good start to the trading week on Wall Street.
The Dow rose 112 points to 9,600. The S&P surged 15 points to 1,040. And the Nasdaq was up 20 points to 2,068.
Investors reacted to word of a return to growth in the service sector, as well as word that Goldman Sachs raised its rating on large banks.
The earnings outlook for U.S. companies will begin to play a more prevalent theme for investors in the coming days. Alcoa reports quarterly earnings tomorrow, the first of the 30 Dow components to weigh in.
