NEW YORK (AP) -- A series of corporate deals gave Wall Street a renewed burst of energy Monday. And that helped stock prices to do better.
The major averages were up between 1.3 and 1.9 percent. For the Dow, that meant a gain of 124 points to 9,789. The S&P rose nearly 19 points to 1,063. And the Nasdaq surged about 40 points to 2,131.
