NEW YORK (AP) -- Stocks have dropped for two days running. Investors will try to reverse that trend today, as they await figures on manufacturing and home sales.

Thursday's decline came after word that sales of previously-owned homes fell 2.7 percent in August.

The Dow lost 41 points to 9,707. The S&P 500 was down 10 points to 1,051. And the Nasdaq shed 24 points to 2,108.

With the decline, the Dow is now about 300 points away from the psychological benchmark of 10,000, a level it fell below nearly a year ago.

The government today releases figures on August durable goods and new home sales.
