JACKSONVILLE, FL -- A Duval County student claims he was molested by a man while on recess at school.

The 8-year-old boy says it happened in May, at Pinedale Elementary.

The boy says he was on the playground at the school when the man approached him.

The boy's mother, who we are not identifying because of the nature of the crime, says she just found out about the incident last week.

The mother says her son's new school teacher contacted her because her son was showing unusual behavior in class. "She asked me to talk to him to find out if he had been touched inappropriately."

She also says her son told her the man walked right on to the playground and that another student even saw him. "The man came through the gate and said, 'Come here, I'm a nice guy.'"

Wednesday morning, First Coast News found an open gate to the playground inside of a fence which surrounds the school.

"I asked him if he told anyone. He said he and the boy told their teacher, but I never got a phone call or nothing," said his mother.

Jill Johnson, the public information officer for the Duval County School District, says, "We just don't have any knowledge of that taking place last (school) year."

Contrary to the child's account, the district says the boy's former teacher says she was never told by him, or a fellow student, about the man.

The district takes any accusation seriously and is now investigating, says Johnson.

"I cried for two days. Now, I'm to the point where I am angry because he was supposed to be somewhere safe," says the boy's mother.

She says while there are many unanswered questions right now, she is confident of one thing. "He's discussed it three, four times and the story never changes. I know it's not something made up."

JSO is investigating the allegations too. The child is set to meet with sex crime detectives this week about the case.
