JACKSONVILLE, FL -- The new school year starts Monday for students in Duval, St. John's, Nassau and Clay counties. Many families spent their last few days of summer collecting school supplies.
There's a last minute rush to get back to school supplies and things like backpacks and pencils are running out at some stores. "It's been crazy. It's hard because you can't find everything you need. It's all they had and it's all gone," said one mother leaving one store and heading to another one.
At many stores like Target, supplies are coming off the shelves as quickly as they can replace them and the school supply area has been packed. "It's been so busy we haven't been able to get it here fast enough. So as we're getting it out here, they're taking it out of our hands," said Valencia West of Target.
With the start of the new school year, parents and their kids are scrambling to get everything they need to start the school year. One student says she's looking for, "binders, pencils, pens, markers, and paper."
Parents are doing what they can to help and make sure their kids have what they need to get ready to head back to school.
