JACKSONVILLE, FL -- Are you looking for something fun and new to do? How about square dancing? The fun dance has come along way. On Good Morning Jacksonville, members of the Moose Promenaders --a modern western square dance club from Jacksonville-- performed several dances and talked to the morning anchors about their fun dance. Here is the Q & A from that interview: GMJ: How many people are part of the club? MP: We currently have 64 members on roster. Not all show every week (especially during the summer), plus we also have visitors from other clubs. So depending on the time of year and whether it is a regular or theme/special dance, we could have as few as, say, 24 or as many as 150. GMJ: How often do you meet? MP: We meet every Thursday (except holidays) from 7 - 10 p.m. GMJ: Where are you based? MP: We dance at the Lakeshore Moose Lodge #2020, 5051 Collins Road, Jacksonville. We are a member club of the Northeast Florida Square & Round Dance Association (NEFSARDA) which is comprised of 16 clubs in the northeast Florida area. There are five associations in Florida: The Central, Northeast, Northwest, Southeast & West Coast. The associations are all members of the Florida Federation of Square Dancers. (Bet you didn't know that there are so many of us) GMJ: Modern Western Square Dancing? MP: Yes, this is what is it called today. This is so that we can distinguish from the older strictly country western style. Today many different types of music can be and is indeed used for square dancing. One of my favorites to call is "Hard Days Night" by the Beatles. Our club has a website: www.moosepromenaders.com, visit and view the photos of some of our activities. The Moose Promenaders will have a free open house to try lessons - Sept. 3rd & 10th at 7:00 - call 904-406-0275 for more information.
