JACKSONVILLE, FL -- It's been more than twenty-four hours since Shane Wiggins was last seen.
The 29-year-old and a female friend were boating in the Julington Creek Marina area Sunday afternoon. The woman told investigators that Wiggins went to the rear of the boat and that one minute he was there and the next he was gone.
Fish and Wildlife investigators spent most of Monday searching the area.
"You second guess yourself a hundred times. Should I have done this," says Tim Mylod, who was in his sailboat with a friend when he heard a call for help."We heard, 'Help!' Both of us looked to the port side of the boat and there was a head in the water," says Mylod.
Mylod turned his sailboat around and headed towards the man in the water. "He couldn't talk and his motor skills were very limited. His head would fall under the water and then come back up, and I was screaming at him, 'Keep your head up, breathe, breathe.'"
Mylod says they were able to get a life ring near Wiggins, but it didn't help. "It landed within two feet of him. He had no awareness. He was incoherent."
Seconds later, Mylod says the man went under and never came back up. "His head snapped back and he took what I guess was his last breath, and he sunk under the water. There were no bubbles or anything."
Mylod says he has relived those moments over the last 24 hours, wondering if there was anything else he could have done. "In those few moments I think we did everything we could."
