JACKSONVILLE, FL -- A 4-year-old's wish before undergoing brain surgery is to visit what he calls, "Sponge Bob Land." His family is doing everything they can to help make his wish come true.
4-year-old Christopher Stoves is a fun loving, active little boy, but for the last two years it's been a tough road for Christopher. At 2-years-old he was diagnosed with kidney cancer. He had his kidney removed followed by months of chemotherapy and radiation.
"There's really no words to describe it. Any mother could imagine," said his mom Leslie Stoves.
Christopher was looking forward to starting school this year, but then his family learned the cancer had spread to his brain. "It started off the size of a pea and it grew to the size of a marble, so now they have to perform brain surgery on August 24th," said Stoves.
Before he undergoes brain surgery, Christopher wants to go to "Sponge Bob Land" which is actually the Nickelodeon Hotel in Orlando. "We need to raise enough money to go down there and be okay to have enough money to do everything."
Christopher's 8-year-old sister came up with an idea to raise the money. They are holding a garage sale today and both kids went through their closets and donated some of their own toys. "I (also) decided to go through the house and get some things. Some neighbors donated some things and that's how we came up with a garage sale," said Stoves.
The rain put a damper on their garage sale Saturday. There wasn't much of a turnout, but the family plans to hold the garage sale once again Sunday after church. Everything is free but the family is accepting donations for Christopher's trip.
The garage sale is at 1 p.m. on Sunday at 2982 Caroline Crest Drive East in Jacksonville.
