JACKSONVILLE, FL -- I Heart Art.

Okay, so maybe that title works better with the logo that goes along with it.

The smiling red heart surrounded by a paint pallet, a crayon and pencils is a reminder of the YMCA of Florida's First Coast's campaign to keep art in the lives of local children.

"As public schools continue to cut arts programs to tighten their budgets," explains YMCA Spokeswoman Ashley Wilson, "more families are seeking the YMCA for the art-enrichment activities their children are missing in the classroom."

Ashley joined News Anchors Phil Amato and Joy Purdy on the set of Good Morning Jacksonville this morning, to explain more about the Y's new program.

That's why, for the next 2 weeks, local YMCAs are collecting all types of art supplies to be handed out to children during its after-school programs and outreach locations.

While you're getting your own children ready for school, pick up an extra set of markers or colored pencils, construction paper or safety scissors, and drop them off at any YMCA or participating Office Depot.

This campaign starts today (August 10) and runs through Sunday, August 23.

Then the next day (the first day of school in Duval County), those supplies will be distributed.

In addition to the supply drive, art activities will be offered free of charge to area children during the 1st week of I Heart Art.

CLICK HERE for more information, and stay tuned to GMJ as we focus on all things "back to school" for the next 2 weeks.
