JACKSONVILLE, FL -- Some heroes in Mandarin are offering a grocery cart full of food to needy families.

Christ Church at 9791 Old St. Augustine Road has a new food and clothing pantry.

Dean Doug Davis says needy families are coming in and leaving with $90-$125 dollars worth of fresh meat, fresh produce and non-perishable items.

The food pantry will be open this Saturday, July 25th, from 10 a.m. until noon. It will be first come, first served.

The church staff has no way to know how many people will show up, and so it's possible some folks will leave with vouchers for food at another date.

The canned and boxed food at Christ Church comes from Second Harvest Food Bank. So if you donated to our recent Be A Hero Food Drive you're helping this effort and, of course, many others around the First Coast.

Christ Church opens its food and clothing pantry every 2nd and 4th Saturday each month.

The number to the church is (904) 262-5588.

The church is hoping to find some heroes to donate items, as well.

The clothing pantry will accept any clothes and also personal items, such as soap, toothpaste, diapers, and cleaning supplies.

A huge request is for toilet paper. One staff member says they call it, "rolled gold." Toilet paper is in high demand and they need more to donate.

Call the church if you can donate items or if you can volunteer at their food/clothing pantry. If you need help, but can't make it to Mandarin, just call 211 to our Hero Central partner, the United Way.
