TAMPA, FL--A man was seriously injured this afternoon when, according to witnesses, his '89 Chevy pickup truck ran a red light and plowed into a truck and trailer that was being driven by a Hillsborough Sheriff's deputy.
The crash happened on State Road 60 at Highway 39, near the Hillsborough-Polk County line. Investigators say Cp. Bruce Harrell, with the Sheriff's Agriculture Unit, was driving a pickup truck that was pulling a trailer with an impounded pig inside.
Harrell was treated on the scene for minor injuries. The hog was not injured, and was loaded up into another trailer to be transported to the HCSO livestock holding pen.
The man driving the Chevy pickup was taken to Lakeland Regional Medical Center for treatment. Investigators say his injuries are serious, but he is expected to survive. His name has not been released.
