JACKSONVILLE, FL -- You can look for a job without leaving your home. WorkSource is hosting the First Coast Virtual Job Fair now through Friday.
Forty-one companies are participating. Employers are looking for everything from meat packers to physical therapists to dispatchers.
WorkSource held a Virtual Job Fair back in April. Candace Moody, Vice President for WorkSource, says it was successful. More than 50 companies took part. There were 4,200 resumes posted on the site.
Moody hopes this week will be successful for those looking a job. She thinks the Virtual Job Fair will be helpful. "For job seekers, the advantage is there's no parking, no driving (so you don't have to use gas). You can do it (apply) anytime from home."
Also, she told First Coast News people don't have to worry about standing in long lines trying to talk with potential employers. "If we actually had 1,300 people crowded into an event that lasts just a few hours, you'd have to wait in line. You won't get much done with a recruiter." This job fair relies on the click of a mouse.
As you know, this is a dismal job market. Moody told us the unemployment rate is at a 25-year high. In fact, on the First Coast, she says the unemployment rate is 9.8%.
People are looking for work. Moody says the website for the Virtual Job Fair is easy to use. If people need help, they can look at a handbook FCCJ put together. It is a user-friendly guide that helps you navigate through the website. It even goes a step further. People can learn how to build a better resume. According to Moody, "They can make the most of their online experience."
The First Coast Virtual Job Fair ends at 11:59 p.m. Friday.
