FLEMING ISLAND, FL -- A line of thunderstorms racing through the First Coast left the Richard Perlberg family with a souvenier--a pine tree on the roof.
The falling pine caught 12-year-old Jarrod Perlberg by surprise as he was taking care of his younger sister, Madison.
"An explosion!" is how the seventh grader described the sound of the pine that crashed on top of the garage.
Jarrod's mother, Tammy, is proud of how her son handled the crisis at home.
No one was injured from the pine tree that came to rest over the living room. The tree poked a hole in the roof.
The Perlbergs believe all the recent rain is to blame by softening the ground that supports several pine trees around their Fleming Island home.
