JACKSONVILLE, FL -- Investigators continue to look into a deadly fire at a mobile home park on the Westside. A woman is dead. A man is in critical condition.

Tom Francis, spokesperson for the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department, told First Coast News the fire started in an older model camper just before 3 Tuesday morning. He said when firefighters arrived at Royal Court on Timuquana Road, flames were shooting up to the branches.

Francis told us a man standing outside of the burning RV said three people were trapped inside. Firefighters made their way through thick smoke inside the narrow home. They found a man and woman in the back on the floor. Francis says firefighters had to pass the two victims through a window to other firefighters outside the home.

Francis said the woman died at the scene. Paramedics rushed the man to the hospital. He is in critical condition. Authorities have not released their names.

As for the third person who the man said was in the burning camper, Francis says firefighters did not find anyone else inside or around the home.

The trailer park owner told First Coast News the camper was rented to a man in his sixties who had lived there about a year.

According to the property owner, the renter had two guests with him at the trailer last night. The property owner says the renter was outside when the fire happened, and that the guests--the man and the woman inside--were the victims of the fire.

The property owner says he was told someone may have been smoking, which led to the fire.

The property owner says neither he nor the renter know the names of the victims.

Police are still investigating. Authorities do not know how the fire started.
