ORANGE PARK, FL -- A dumpster located at an Orange Park apartment complex is the spot where a two-year-old child was found. Police say the boy was found by someone visiting a resident at the complex Saturday morning; the visitor walked by the area and spotted the child inside.
Bucci says the boy wandered from his home at the Cedar Bend Apartment complex around 11 Saturday morning.
Police say they know for sure the child was not intentionally placed inside, but may have crawled in on his own.
As for how long he was inside the dumpster, "We don't know that for sure right now. We guestimate 20 minutes at the most that he may have been outside the residence."
Lt. Bucci says the child's dad knew his son was missing and was looking for the little boy when police arrived.
Family members, who did not want to be identified, say the child knows how to open the front door. They say the father heard the front door slam shut and he immediately went looking for his son.
The family member says the father is a good dad and works two jobs in order to provide for his family.
The child was returned to his father immediately.
DCF is also investigating the incident. DCF spokesman John Harrell says the department has been checking in on the family daily while the investigation is underway.
