JACKSONVILLE, FL -- The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is investigating the tampering of gas pump meters resulting in 2,000 gallons of gas sold for less than $100.
The Kangaroo Store at 11325 West Beaver reported this week it was cheated out of several thousand dollars.
Investigators checking out surveillance video discovered a man tampered with the reading board on the pump, allowing him to control what he paid.
In one instance, police say 606 gallons were pumped with the pump meter set for $24.14. The true cost of the purchase was nearly $1,600.
Investigators say this happened at least three times. No arrests have yet been made.
