ATLANTA, GA --The BBC is reporting that a boat carrying aid to pro-Palestinian groups in the Gaza Strip has been surrounded and boarded by Israeli forces. Former Georgia Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney is reported onboard the boat.

According to the reported posted on BBC.co.uk, Ms. McKinney described it as "an outrageous violation of international law", as the boat was on a humanitarian mission and was not in Israeli waters.

The Israeli military said the boat was trying to enter Gaza illegally, the BBC reported.

The 20-person crew on the Greek-registered ship "Arion" was reportedly working for a U.S.-based Free Gaza Movement. McKinney and Nobel Prize winner Mairead Maguire were reportedly on board.

Israeli forces have maintained a blockade on the Palenstinian territory.

In December of 2008, McKinney was involved in a similar incident when the boat she was on, the S.S. Dignity, was allegedly rammed by Israeli forces.
