JACKSONVILLE, FL -- Video shows the waterspout moved ashore and this is why Friday's waterspout has now been upgraded to a tornado.
Video recorded from the traffic camera on I-10 looking east at Stockton Street shows a tornado moving north and lifting before crossing I-10.
No funnel is visible in the vortex but tornadoes don't always have a visible funnel. What you can see is the debris flying in the sky in a counterclockwise direction and a rain wrapped surface vortex at the surface.
The ground circulation shows it's a weak tornado. A bright flash is a power line or transformer blowing as the tornado passes by. Live video during Friday's news showed the waterspout lifting as it came ashore near Riverside Avenue just north of Ortega.
Based on tree damage in Riverside it may have descended a second time and this video shows the end of the tornado path.
Damage indicates it was probably an EF0 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale. About 53% of all tornadoes are this strong. It is the weakest of tornadoes with minor damage to homes. Tree limbs break and gutters and birdcages are often damaged in EF0 tornadoes.
