JACKSONVILLE, FL -- Rey Kinney made a decision to fight back during an armed robbery, even though it cost him part of his left ear.

Police say two men entered the Games Galore store on Normandy Boulevard late Friday morning armed with a gun.

Kinney was alone in the store and told First Coast News he believed the store was being cased for a robbery. He says his suspicions were confirmed when one of the men pulled out a handgun.

"I did not want to get shot so, I've seen so many cop shows where people get shot afterwards," said Kinney, who got in a struggle with the gunman after being held at gunpoint on the floor.

"I just wanted to get the gun and get the clip out of it. That was actually the main thing. That's when I actually got my ear bit off."

Kinney, according to police, was locked in the store after the robbers locked the front door and took off out the back door.

Kinney's mother, Debbie Combs, rushed to the family business to give police keys so they could open up the store.

"They tried to kill him, but they didn't. Thank God," said Combs.

The store reports besides cash, the robbers got away with $50,000 worth of game related items.
