WASHINGTON (AP) -- Maybe members of Congress would normally blow past a teenager on Capitol Hill, thinking he was an intern or a tourist.

Yesterday, they were listening to him. Sixteen-year-old Nick Jonas of The Jonas Brothers testified before the Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee about funding for diabetes research.

Jonas was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes three years ago. He says the diagnosis was a shock and it took him six to nine months to be comfortable with managing the disease. He now brings insulin on the road with him.

Jonas says he sees his diabetes as an opportunity for sharing his story and being an inspiration to others.
