ST. AUGUSTINE, FL -- Two St. Johns County housewives have turned a creative thought into a booming business in this tough economy.
Megan Marasigan and Amy Barrett started thinking a couple of years ago how they could work from home. The two came up with what is called Trace Designs.
Six months ago, they launched the traceable mural company, with one group of people in mind. "People who can't get out of their homes and are thinking, 'I think I want to change things up a little bit,'" says Marasigan.
They created mural packets, for less than $100, which can transform a room from bland to grand in a matter of hours. "You trace the design. You trace over it and color it in like a coloring book."
At first they sold the packets by word of mouth, but now they are online and big companies are now calling them. "We met someone who was interested with Home Depot."
They are now selling with the giant home retailer and other offers keep coming. "We just never know what's around the corner."
Marasigan came up with all the designs herself. There are a couple dozen to choose from right now, but more are on the way.
The two women say they had no idea that one creative thought would turn into a profitable business run right out of their homes.
The two say they feel lucky they are able to stay home with their kids, make money on the side and help others who are struggling in a tough economy. "It makes us feel good. We are offering a product that is helping people to save money."
