JACKSONVILLE, FL -- It's a long haul from Lake George in Putnam County to Mary Romeo's Westside driveway.
But Linda Miller and her husband, Gerry, arrived with smiles on their faces and a special gift in tow.
The Millers are giving Mary a golf cart to replace the one stolen and broken by thieves Tuesday night. The Millers saw the First Coast News report Wednesday night about Mary's old cart being stolen.
"And we both kind of at the same time said, 'Well, we've got a cart (that) sits there doing nothing,'" said Gerry.
"Just goes out occasionally -- up and down the little road, but we just knew it would do you more good than us," said Linda Miller.
"It looks great," said Romeo.
"I can't wait to drive it!"
First, Mary took a quick up-and-around on the flat part of the driveway; then it was time for the inaugural trip down the bumpy rutted drive to the mailbox.
"I didn't think I'd ever see my golf cart again and I knew I couldn't afford to buy another one, so I figured I'd just have to make do without it," said Romeo.
"Well, now you have another one that'll take you up and down the lane and you can go to your Taco Bell even in the dark," said Linda.
"This will make things a lot easier for me, and I can't thank you all enough!" said Romeo.
"Just meeting you is thanks enough, Mary. And I mean that sincerely...it does," said Linda Miller.
And so the Millers head back home to Georgetown, south of Palatka, with Mary's old broken down cart -- and so much more.
"A good feeling in my heart!" said Gerry Miller.
