JACKSONVILLE, FL -- This year the First Coast is expected to see 750 refugees who were forced from their native countries for various reasons.
This weekend, World Refugee Day has various relief agencies in the city involved in relocation programs bringing together families who decided to live in Jacksonville.
Seventy children from refugee families enjoyed playing together on the grounds of the Shepherd of the Woods Lutheran Church in Mandarin. The social gathering also allowed families to get to know each other.
Manoj Rai is new to Jacksonville from Bhutan. He has been in the United States for less than a year.
When asked about living on the First Coast, Rai told First Coast News, "Oh, it is good, but the weather is very hot sometimes."
Saturday, twenty newcomers to the United States are expected to sworn in as American citizens. The naturalization ceremony will be held at the Main Library downtown.
